British women would much prefer looking at other British women. I was in England recently and the young men are striking and polite.

Declaring the side width of a swim brief or bikini commits the manufacturer to making that product to that size. The customer who measures their suit sides may then return the garment and complain. Different machinists with the same materials may make a slightly different product, which may be acceptable so long as both sides match, when measured to the nearest 1/2".
Also if fashion changes they can change the design of the suit without changing the name or description if they haven't declared any exact specifications.

I will say the Speedo 1" Solar Really Is a 2" solar...
