Default Speedos on TV

(Apologies in advance if this subject still exists. I searched and didn't see one)
Wondering how often speedos have been on TV, and when it became "taboo"? This morning, I was watching Buzzr (A US cable TV channel showing old game shows) and there was an episode of "Sale of the Century from 1985. One of the prizes was a trip to Acapulco. Not only were there guys in speedos in the stock footage used while describing the prize, but the male model on-stage was wearing a teal green speedo.
I also recall that speedos also showed up occasionally on "CHiPs." A show set in the California Highway Patrol from the 1970s and 1980s.
On current game shows, when beach vacations, boats, or other similar prizes are shown, the male model (if there is one) wears board shorts, and can't think of any other recent show that has shown speedos in a positive or neutral light.

I remember Patrick Duffy, Christopher Atkins, and other guys regularly sporting speedos on the nighttime soap Dallas. Lorenzo Lamas did the same on Falcon Crest. Also, back in the 80's, guys were almost always in speedos on the daytime soap operas when a scene called for a male actor to be in a swimsuit. Those were good days.

It's a very curious cultural shift. I do remember someone posted an ad (I believe from UK) showing a mature man enjoying his vacation in a purple speedo in a way that wasn't foolish. It is very sad to see the board short craze beginning to catch on even in places such as Rio de Janeiro; the absolute worst American trend to imitate...

I hate to say it but the US now has worse trends to share with the world.

Smile Speedos on TV

I do agree and It shows how much our male pride in themselves. It's sad to see young guys in places like Brasil's wearing baggy board sorts on the beach. I'll wear speedo swim suits at any beach.

Default The most famous

By far the most famous TV show with Speedos was a 1983 "Dallas" episode with Christopher Atkins playing the Sue Ellen's young lover "Peter Richards" wearing royal blue Speedos (penis clearly "up!)

There was an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer where the swim team was being attacked, and they all wore briefs

They were very common on the original Baywatch.

In 1977 Australia men were already wearing a string bikini per a televised ABC news report. Macy's stores actually sold a version of this style (see link below) in both the Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay areas during the early and mid 1980's, having it displayed on a few store male mannequins.

My first wearing of this style in public was during the summer of 1982. Spent an entire day at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk and beach wearing it accompanied by my wife with nothing, but compliments. This is the minimalistic, but still full coverage Speedo style that I still wear.
