Age of Acceptance
Over the years I've worn speedos to many beaches and pools. In the beginning like most of us, I was very nervous to drop my shorts and wear speedos in public. It's been a long road of having speedo anxiety to being comfortable in my own skin or should i say my own speedo.]
The last couple years I've been pretty comfortable wearing my speedo and not thinking twice about it, but there have also been instances where I've not worn my speedo because I felt out of place. A couple of weeks ago, I took a trip up to the beach by myself for one last hurrah of summer. I had every intention of wearing my speedo and I did just that. What I had realized though is that I had no anxiety whatsoever. I laid out my towel and chair, dropped the shorts, and put on sunscreen. There were a couple people nearby, but not really close. As the morning progressed, more people claimed their spots on the beach that were relatively close to me as I laid on my towel in my speedo glory. At one point, I had a small conversation with some guy near me as I stood up in my speedo and he was coming from the water in his drippy shorts. So I guess what I'm trying to say here is that my acceptance of wearing what I like is at its peak. I am very comfortable wearing a speedo at the beach and don't really care what others think. Getting older definitely gives you more perspective on your life and what's important to you, but unfortunately the downside to getting older is that your body changes and you're not that buff speedo dude anymore. Although, I must say...I can still rock it...at least that's what I think. Speedo on! |

It is great to hear a success story like this need4speedo! Thank you for sharing!
Yes, I completely agree with you on age helping you feel more comfortable with it. I think it is the experience of doing it that helps. This is why I always encourage people to just get out there and do it. Quit worrying about what other people think and just go enjoy yourself. I know I really wish I would have been more confident when I was younger and in better shape. Regardless, time marches on... I don't know if I "rock it" or not, but I definitely love wearing thongs and g-strings at the beach! If I need to be more "family friendly" then a brief or square cut is always available, too. |
