Do you have something called Black Friday as well ? - sales following Halloween are they not ? (when there is a stampede to the shops for cut-price bargains?)

An then there was the Cyber-Monday, the following Monday after Black Friday, when everyone went on the internet ordering discount items "WHILE AT WORK" !!!

Thanksgiving ocurs on the last Thursday in November. Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving. Cyber Monday is the Monday after Thanksgiving, and really only started when online merchants became commonplace. People that missed out on stores on black Friday supposedly order on-line on Cyber Monday
This year the stores seemed to all want Black Friday to begin at about 8 pm Thanksgiving eve. Shopping this year was very common with many stores open. So the meaning of these shopping days getss diffused. People also shop on line on black Friday to avoid the crowds, as well as on the weekend between black Friday and cyber Monday |

Thanks for info. guys - I was curious as ASDA (owned by Walmart) has just tried out this American tradition in the UK - and resulting in customers' fisticuffs and a police arrest. This guy in Bristol apparently insisted on having two tv sets when only one such item was allowed but wouldn't give in:
