Default the snip

Yes, thought at one time only to be the mark of a Jew but the practise so widespread elsewhere in modern times that it cannot be a definition now.

Here is the reference on the subject. Drastic differences between the US and Europe.Until the 1970s nealy every male baby in the US was circumcised, gradually declined after.

It does but for babies they have no memory of it..For the 12 year olds its a completely different matter.

One reason more Pagans coinverted to Christianity rather than Jew is because the Jews had the circumcision requirement for adults undergoing conversion, whereas the Christians did not, according to some historians, The whole idea terrified many Pagans.

Circumcision goes back to Abraham, but in Christian doctrine baptism replaced circumcision. Jews are with Abraham. The whole story on how circumcism affected the ultimate numbers of Jews versus Christians can be found in this book, written by a sociologist not a theologan.

Default I should have had the book.....!

LOL - I had such stupid parents that I was only told that the doctor made a little cut on me when I was a baby. As the only cut I could see was to release pee I thought that must be a good idea as I knew it could not be held in forever.
(Sebbie will correct me but I believe only certain rabbis are certificated for the ritual in order to ensure a standard of hygiene and safety)

Certain Jewish men, not necessarily rabbis are called "mohels" and are certified to perform the ritual circumcision which is called a "bris" done when a Jewish boy is 8 days old. These men are experts and usually there is a rabbi present to conduct the religious ritual prayers that go along with the circumcision. Others choose pediatricians to perform the circumcision along side the rabbi. Many people in large cities prefer the "mohel" because he has so much experience.
