yes it's a funny old world! I blame the fashion industry and certain people there who decide on what people should or should not be wearing. There seems to be a total negativity to anything skimpy for me yet women can wearing the tiniest bikinis and generally people will applaud them- except here in the UK where Victorian attitudes still persist. My wife, who is considerably younger than me will wear the tiniest g-strings/thongs as underwear and tiny bikinis on the beach but doesn't like me in my brief swimwear or underwear. It hurts.

Doesn't like you in brief underwear? Who else is going to know?

Anyway, I wear swim briefs while my wife wears a one-piece and no one complains. It wouldn't bother me if she did wear a bikini, but she seems to lack the confidence.

My wife who wears either a one piece or shorts and a tank top, likes when I wear speedos - I wear an Aussiebum Swish brief or a Tactics swim brief with sides about 1.5 or 2 - I like the low cut in the front. I certainly don't have great abs, but I'm also not overweight and have a pretty flat stomach so I feel OK about the way I look. Neither one of us really cares what others think; we've reached the age when we don't have to worry about that sort of thing. When we've visited France and Italy, I saw many more guys of all ages and more recently, in Oahu last September, more men in bikinis than the last time I was there, 3 years earlier. So, hopefully there is a trend back to speedos.

As I've said over and over, if you want speedos to gain more acceptance, then just start wearing them.

However if you don't think other people accept speedos -and don't wear them yourself- you're creating a self "fulfilling prophecy".

I've also said that you should contact the apparel makers and retailers and tell them you want more traditional styles in men's swimwear and casual wear -IE- short shorts instead of those "half pants".

Surely it's a simllar type of issue for women at their local pool, in that they predominantly wear one-piece swimwear, so that bikini wearers are very much in the minority? Doubt if that stops them, though.

Being a fairly STR8 guy, I also admire girls in bikinis.

Both sexes look a hell of lot better in skimpy swim suits.

I was at the local pool at the weekend. I saw a man leave the pool some distance from me and it appeared he was wearing black briefs with 2" sides, but it could have been less than that. He was rather portly to say the least, and my first reaction was 'yuck!'

However, I reflected for a few seconds and thought 'he's shown a lot of confidence to wear that so should be applauded'.

So maybe the best thing I've seen at a pool.

Bede735,

That conclusion of yours is a very nice and thoughtful response.
