Changing suits when lap swimming

The euro cut sporti is fine, a little tighter and smaller than most, but it is well in bounds. I actually have a few Sporti suits, euro cut. I like the fit and look. I would not go 1 inch though at a lap swim. Same reasons as others have said.

I agree that anything that looks "XXX" should NOT be worn at a public pool or gym/health club. It could get you kicked out of the place for indecent exposure as well.

Remember the anti-speedo campaign was started by the "Coalition for Family Values" and that kind of behavior could be a set back to the pro-speedo movement -which is finally gathering some momentum.

The better option is to wear something with 7 or 8 inch sides or possibly a square cut -which ever best fits your body.

Guys thanks for your input. I'm for sure not going to try the unlined suit, glad I asked, though I'm not sure I would of had the guts to do it any way.

I'm a bit surprised some think a 1" isn't appropriate, the Speedo Solar was sold at JC Penny's and is still sold at Macy's. I've used that suit most of the time, for sure one of the small suits I've seen but didn't think it was inappropriate.

I use to use a square cut before I had a somewhat better body and the range of motion with a brief/bikini was noticeably better.

It may sound like an odd thing to say but the skimpier suit could give you more water-drag than the standard 2 or 3 inch suits mentioned.
Their slightly larger area of fabric can provide tension over all the suit to maintain a really snug fit in all parts. The 1 inch ,usually with the higher leg cut, will sometimes not cope as well below the waistband against water pressure.

There has never been an "anti" Speedo movement, by any "Coalition for Family Values" or anyone else. I am tired of hearing these silly accusations against certain religious or other groups. Speedos have never been that popular as general swim or beach wear - other than for swim teams, etc. I've seen people on these boards talk about the 1970s when everyone wore Speedos. Really? Watch the 1970s movie "Jaws" - not one Speedo is seen on anyone in those numerous beach scenes, and only one 'square-cut' type suit that I saw. There has never been an organized movement against Speedos - if 'right-wing Christian extremists' were so opposed to skin showing, why are their virginal daughters still wearing skimpy bikinis? If you want to blame anyone for making Speedos less popular, start with the flamboyant exhibitionists in Gay Pride parades - gee, come to think of it, as those parades blossomed in the 80s and 90s, Speedos started disappearing......hmmm......

I was on my high school swim team in the 60s and 70s and every athletic swimmer wore briefs -AKA- what is commonly called a "speedo". Same with short shorts for boy's P.E. and summer wear.

I have thoroughly researched this issue and the anti-speedo movement is a spin off of the anti-gay, right wing christian and "family values" campaign who stereotyped speedos as gay fetish wear. The movement really picked up steam in the Bible Belt region of the country.

I was on the Beach at Waikiki in the mid 80s. At that point in time, probably 2/3 of the guys were wearing brief-style suits, and the little stores near the beach had a huge collection in case you didn't bring something along. Even more interesting is that maybe 10 percent of the guys (women too) were wearing thongs. I thought this was just amazing. No one appeared to be the least bit self conscious about it all. What is considered acceptable beach wear kinda goes with the flow, and if a lot of guys decide a Speedo style suit or even a thong is fine, it will be fine.

I haven't been back there since, but Hawaiia beaches attract a very international crowd, esp Japanese. I can't believe the Asian guys these have somehow given up on their skinpy suits.

Then around 1990 I attended a convention and stayed at a Hotel in San Diego. There, you often were wearing too much clothing if you wore a brief suit. I wore thongs most of the time, and thats what many of the guys around the pool and esp the hot tub were wearing. I have thongs and a skimpy brief style suit of the same color. I would slip the brief over the thong and head off to the pool or tub. Then I would check out what the other guys around me were wearing, and slip off the brief to reveal the thong or not, depending on what was going on at the moment.

My visits to department stores at various locations and times in Florida suggests that the big department stores (Macys, J.C. Penney, etc) routinely carry skimpier swimsuits for men than we currently see locally. I gues its all a matter of what sells to the local crowd.

I too feel that all this talk about Speedos being banned in certain places and by certain groups is overrated. If a person has so many hangups that somehow a brief-style suit on a man is offensive thats a problem of the person with the hangups not a problem for the swimsuit wearer!

On the subject of attire for pools or hot tubs, in Japanese communal baths, men wear nothing. The Japanese have got the concept 100% right and unless it's a coed get together, the best thing for the pool or the bath is pure nudity.
