Dads & Speedos
Speedo Dad - this is awesome. I never saw my dad in a speedo and I, too, started when I joined the swim team in high school. If I have kids one day I will make sure he is in a speedo probably from a younger age than that!

Inspiration
My dad didn't swim.
My maternal grandfather liked brief swimwear so maybe I got a latent inspiration from him. |

Thanks to Rob and his Dad!
I actually created an account to reply to this thread. I thought Rob was very honest about how his father showed him how to be confident and proud of his body.
I have to say I really enjoyed the videos. Not in some pornographic way... they got me thinking... a common comment men or women might have about speedos is they are only okay on an Olympic swimmer, which is to me, a Ken-doll. Perfect, but lacking any real sex appeal or normalcy. But in the videos and pics, you can see a healthy, happy man with his family. Does he have a perfect olympic body? No. Is he handsome and healthy? Yes, very much so. (Nice rump, too!) Speedos offer one of the few remaining ways that people actually get to see normal men's bodies. From someone who really appreciates the male form, I thank all men who have the confidence to don a speedo. While I am gay, I think it is especially important for straight men to enjoy their bodies and be proud. What is the alternative? How many of these straight men are just embarrassed about their flabby bodies, hiding behind layers and layers of fabric? It is a horrible state of affairs if us gay men are the only ones aloud to feel sexy. So, congrats on being sexy and brave and showing the world what a real man looks like. I can remember a few brave men in speedos at the pool or beach from past vacations. I can tell you, spotting one like Rob's Dad can make a vacation! |

Welcome misteranon, hope you stay with us now you are here and present further interesting points.
The homophobic school bullies are often trying to repress and hide their gay sides. They say things like "Only gays wear speedos!" The str8 boys that don't want to be called gay then beaten up start wearing board shorts when it would have been much easier to join up with the gay boys and beat up the bully, but that never happens. |

My dad was my underwear inspiration
Thanks for welcoming me. I guess now that I think of it my dad was my underwear inspiration. He was your typical American policeman and he never wore Speedos or anything.
However, he did have some surprisingly flashy underwear that I would see going through the wash. us boys usually had briefs or boxers but my dad had colorful bikini briefs and nice jockeys with pouches. I have to admit I looked up to my dad a lot and thought about him in those sexy briefs. I only got to see him a couple times struting around the house. My best friend's dad, well that's another story. He was much more open as he showed off In his colorful briefs even when they had company and so I got to see a lot more of him than my own dad. Not bad considering he was a trim hairy Italian with what appeared to be massive balls. Occasionally I would try on some of dad's sexy underwear and pretend like I could actually fill them out. However, sitting with my coffee this morning I realized that maybe he did inspire me as I am wearing some nice soft jockey bikinis. |

That's cool. I'm 28 and still have reservations about wreaking a speedo in public. Recently, I wore my aussiebum in Myrtle beach, sc. Got a few shitty remarks. But mostly smiles from older ladies. One old guy was wearing briefs too. Oddly enough, he helped me be confident enough to pull off the shorts and enjoy myself.

Hope you had a good day in your aussiebums on the beach and it will be the first of many good days of wearing swim briefs in the sunshine. Let the moaners moan while you do you own thing.

Taking inspiration from Dad
Quote:
Hi Rob, great to read your story. I too have taken some inspiration from my father to wear speedos. It was always the case growing up. Dad is well into his 70's now but still wears speedos to take a dip in the sea several times a week. He is also very unapologetic about wearing them and has always said that you need to be confident in your own skin and what you wear. So, to this day I also wear speedos to my gym pool and on holiday. You're right, they do get some glances but if you wear with confidence, people generally don't give it a second thought. Thanks for sharing the links to the home movies - looks like you guys had lots of fun on holidays. Reminds me of large family trips that we have taken in the past - everyone in shorts and myself and my father in speedos! Thanks to your Dad also for sharing the more recent photo - he has certainly stayed in shape with all of the swimming! Incidentally, the link you posed to his Facebook post is broken - I was looking forward to reading how your Dad rebutts any comment that might be making fun of him! Any chance you could repost that ? Thanks! |
