Awesome
That is one cool ad... and the suit as daring, but classy. I also really like the car.... hmmm. Maybe I need to slip on a square cut and visit my local Ford dealer.

Very cool ad - but since you almost NEVER (I can't remember ever) see a diver in a square-cut suit, why didn't they just have the guy wear a regular brief Speedo? Most viewers have seen the Olympics and such, and would not be shocked or offended to see a diver wear a Speedo brief.....

Thought the same....
Why on earth not make it realistic ? - I suspect conservative Ford would want universal appeal for the car and not convey the "wrong" image in what must have been a very expensive promotion for them.
(In looking behind the scenes I couldn't work out where the model left off and the stunt man took over). |

They are depicting the diver as typical of the buyers of this car. An alpha male in the peak of his powers rather than the boy divers in the Olympics.
They want potential buyers to imagine themselves in the place of the diver, the men this car is aimed at might imagine themselves in square cuts but might not go so far as placing themselves in brief speedos. Speedos or squarecuts it is still an impressive image. |
