Default Casino Royale

50 years of James Bond movies.
We've all seen the La Perla trunks a hundred times but a charity auction of 007 memorabilia last night produced an amazing final bid for them of £44450:

I got a pair on sale at Saks for $90 -- but they weren't worn by a movie star in a movie -- I guess that has a lot to do with the London auction

Default provenance

That's the collector's world for you.....
A cup from a tea service of the Russian Empire may be beautiful and even a valuable piece of china, but if it can be shown that the Czar drank from it at breakfast..........well, the sky's the limit.
The British press must take the world prize for hyperhype on those trunks - they have always been suggestively referred to as daring speedos or swim suit - nudge, nudge, wink, wink - and I have even seen one journalist describe a "revealing bikini" as Bond comes out from his swim (a hark back to (was it?) Angela Andress in the early days no doubt, when she emerged from the water in bikini and holding up a conch shell).
