According to this 2020 article the last great moments in Swimsuit History occurred in 1981 with Tom Selleck wearing a Speedo. Nothing has happened with Speedos in the US since!

This summer many more young men and boys were wearing short shorts. It is the fitter sporty guys that are doing it leaving the flabby and the slow behind in big baggy shorts.
With shorter shorts comes a desire to wear briefs rather than boxer briefs (square cuts), those that wear briefs will naturally choose speedos for swimming as they are used to the cut in their underwear.
Next year as the covid rules disappear we'll be seeing more speedos and square cuts in our pools and beaches.

Glad to hear that short shorts are also becoming more common.

Which part of the world are you living in?

... is a relative term. Granted they are getting shorter relative to recent styles, but are still longer than they were in the 70s and early 80s.

These "Speedos are back in fashion" articles seem to appear at least once every year and I think there just clickbait.

I haven't seen any sign of speedos becoming more popular amongst male beach goers but I have noticed a positive development.

The trailer for one of those dating reality shows showed some of the guys in swim briefs instead of shorts.

It may not seem like much but in the 2000's it would have been shorts only.

Its a sign that briefs are losing their "gay men only" image.

If briefs start appearing more often in mainstream culture then society will follow.

Highly doubt that the mainstream culture will once again accept the wearing of briefs as being masculine when they've been proven for decades to lower sperm count.

Why wearing tighty-whities can lower your sperm count
