Stretch Polyurethane PU
If you want fabrics that look rubbery you have a choice of PVC Lycra or stretch Polyurethane (PU).
Stretch PVC looks good but as it is a layer of PVC attached to Lycra with adhesive you will find that the PVC flakes off when it is over-stretched or it gets wet. I have recently made some stretch PU swim briefs, one in my size that I have tested in the shower and found to past the test. This fabric fits tight, feels good, looks rubbery and can get wet with out any problems. It may have a medium rather than a long life expectancy when used regularly. 1" side contour swim suit in stretch PU. Thanks for the info. I have wanted a rubber type bikini, but always hesitated due to the choice types. Will have to start looking once again.
Thanks again |

Searched and found
Found this on the web through Body Aware. Wonder how long it would last...

A lot of the Asics swim briefs are made out of polyester (usually 70-75%) with a layer of polyurethane on the outside. I'm saving up to buy some of them to see how the polyester-PU blend holds up in the water over the long term.
Really cool suit, Torchwatch. You made it? How long have you been making suits? |

I have been making men's swimsuits for about 10 years now.
I was looking for something to wear while doing exercises in the loft and I found the Stitchboy Patterns by accident. I thought I'd try them out, first using polythene shopping bags and sticky tape, then hand sewing and finally using machines. I own domestic sewing machine and an overlocker. It's fun to create something exciting in 3D from flat 2D fabric. There's no money in it, but seeing a photo of someone happily wearing something that I've made is satisfying. |
