cute skimpy suit that I want..
Where would be the place to search for this arena suit? Ebay?
I see a lot of Ebay listing for Arena, speedo, etc for skimpy suits. They all seem to be vendors selling out of Thailand or some other foreign country. Is the quality of these "fake" suits the same? Have you guys had any experience with that? |

Not all of these suits are fake. Speedo, Arena and others license the use of their name to local suppliers who make suits specifically for their local markets.
If you are looking for a tiny suit, even a brand name sold in the US, chances are you will be dealing with an Asian retailer, as the US brand would permit only suits sold in the US to be sold by US vendors. Actually, there are exceptions. I have a Tyr suit that was clearly tagged for the European market, that I got in a grab bag Swimoutlet sale. It's considerably skimpier than the Tyrs sold for the US market. Part of the fun is in the chase. I think Arena and Asics sell suits in Asia sized similar to Aqux and Seobean. |

It looks like an Asian made Arena suit.
It may not be a fake. The brand owners have clothing made under license in Asia for the European and American markets, but they also have stuff made for the Asian market not to be exported to Europe and Asia, the quality and price of such sportswear is lower, the brand owners try to keep them out of 1st world markets calling them "grey import"s. You may be able to find on Ebay, especially if factory staff are buying 2nds and selling off. |

There are a lot of fake suits of poor quality coming out of Asia. China Thailand and others don't honor copyright laws they are copying western brands including the labels and logos. If they have a size compensation it is fake. Japan is the exception and has licensed manufacturers making brands like Speedo and Arena. Basically if it comes out of China or Thailand it is very probably a fake. I ended up with a fake Aussiebum and the quality of material and construction were inferior and it didn't fit. My "deal" ended up in the trash. If you are shopping out of the orient - especially EBay- it is buyer beware.
Another trick they use is to use a picture of the name brand and sell you a poor copy that is nothing like the suit pictured. Legitimate companies are spending millions trying to stay on the problem but are having a losing battle when governments won't help. Personally, I won't buy anything out of the orient unless I am there in person. |
