Blue Lagoon, Iceland
I was going through some old vacation photos, and came across a few from the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. The country has a lot of geothermal activity and many natural hot pools. The Blue Lagoon is the most popular tourist destination. Almost everyone there is visiting from another country.
Women wore a mix of one piece bathing suits and bikinis. Nothing too skimpy, although there was a woman wearing a one piece thong. The men mostly wore shorts (almost no board shorts), but square cut and brief suits were well represented. They are pretty strict about cleanliness. All the pools in Iceland require a nude shower before you can enter. They added private stalls for people that aren't comfortable with showering with other people. It's nice that they try to keep things clean, but putting on a swimsuit while you're wet isn't always easy. Iceland wouldn't seem like the logical place to wear a bathing suit, but it's worth checking out if you are in the area. |

I went there a few years ago during March and visited an outdoor pool. I think there are around 7 of them in Reykjavík. It seemed bizarre swimming outdoors when there were snowflakes fallen on you, but the steam coming off the water protected you.
I didn't shower naked. There may have been a sign saying that but as the signage was in Icelandic I wouldn't have understood it. |
