Default speedo philisophizing

Hi all,
I'm mostly a lurker with few posts, felt the need to post something as I was having a deep and meaningful think about the nature of body exposure while I was on the beach this morning.

I was swimming on a secluded section of beach north of my city, wearing red-white-blue brief cut Funky Trunks (aussie brand - available online & well worth a look), a good pair really, thick waistband elastic so held up well while I was working the waves! Felt really liberated wearing them, and realized I'm at a good point of my life where I'm not self-conscious about how my body looks in something brief-cut in public - you see I regularly swim laps in brief cut speedos, plain ones mind you, and while I can say it doesn't publicly turn me on wearing them (whew!) I do really feel like a man wearing them.

What have we come to where too many guys feel the need to cover up their insecurity about their own bodies by pretending that wearing a male "bhurka" (i.e. board shorts) is the epitomy of male masculine display, and that you have to perpetually hide your glory behind baggy clothing?

I'm not what I would consider an exhibitionist. I'll be frank, I loathe super-skimpy male swimwear (G-strings, "koala pouches" and those borat things are really pushing the limit for me), but I don't see what's wrong with tasteful brief cut swimwear, it's comfortable, practical and it looks damned good!

This board is refreshing in that it represents the "old guard" who say "**** you" to the fashion police (a proportion of whom I'm sure secretly like the look of speedos, but would never admit it to their friends). Keep it up guys!

Any other thoughts?

Anyway, took some selfies of myself at the beach, let's see if I can figure out doing attachments...

I agree with much of what you say. I find it disturbing that so many people, guys and gals, get so offended at the male body. Think of the culture that has been built. It has even become vogue to call a guys anatomical parts "junk" now. People get hung up if they can see the bulge outline of a penis. I am by no means an advocate for parading around in completely revealing attire (for either sex), but like you I see nothing wrong with a brief cut swimsuit. The human body, male or female, is a work of wonder. The bulge of the male is as much a part of us as the swelling breasts of the lady. Just like ladies get hung up on the size of their breasts, guys go through a phase where we are hung up by the size of our parts. I don't shame the guys who wear board shorts, to each their own, but if they wear them simply because they are afraid to show off that they are male, shame on them for giving in to the hate.

I am glad to have another Funky Trunks fan on here. I love Funkies. I have several of their square cuts and their brief cuts. They are really fun suits, cool prints and fit really well. Great picture of you, too.

Funky On!

STS

Well put STS, it seems the default setting for public opinion now is abhorrence for the male "bits", which is strange given that gratification of those "bits" is a huge industry in itself and no great secret!

And of course there's the odd double standard that expects women to bare it all when swimming but guys are supposed to hide their "bits"

I realize of course I have to be tolerant of other people's choices too: if someone had forced a 17-year old Me to wear speedos, I think I would've sooner died!

And TsTurbo, will be looking forward to seeing how your bodily-exposure fact-finding tour goes!

As for the Funky Trunks...yep they've got some great designs. Most of the ones I have, have finished their run of availability but they're always coming up with new good ones

Here's a pic of me (not at the beach this time) in another pair of FT's, these ones are a cool sort of backgammon design. Nice snug fit, very comfortable.

Both of those suits are really cool! Welcome to the board as a non-lurker!

Cheers my friend. I could bombard you with more pics of me, but it might just be easier to put up a link to my flickr page. When I figure that one out...
