Default Paper Speedo

I just picked up a "Vintage" speedo. I believe the material is paper. I've never heard material krinkle when you move it around and it doesn't stretch at all. Looking for all the info I can get on this. Are these collectable at all?

Paper lycra is a fabric used to make extreme performance and rather tight racing suits. It is paper thin rather than made of paper so it won't crinkle and crackle when you scrunch it up.

These suits deteriorate rapidly when stretched or subjected to water and chlorine based chemicals. Leave it damp in a bag then you might as well throw it away.

If your suit is in a good condition then treasure it, there are very few left. Don't advertise your address or you will be attacked in the streets by anguished collectors.

Keep the suit dry and out of direct sunlight (the uv will break down the fabric) each time you try it on or dare to swim in it will shorten it's life. Have fun!

I own a handful of 'paper suits' from the early-mid 1990s, and mine in fact do make a 'crinkle' sound when you wad them up or squeeze the fabric. These suits were all the rage then, and as competitive male swimmers downsized them for speed and less drag, they were scandalously skimpy and revealing. Oh, how I miss those days...
