I've been a member of a men's private health club for several years. It is a great place, the the age of members varies from college age guy to guys in their 60's and all in good shape. I'm in my late 40's and also in good shape. Our club has a welcoming and initiation day for our new young college age members. Some of us are their mentors,myself included. Most of these guys are well built and love swimming and wearing Speedo swimsuits. The club has a large olympic size swimming pool with other facilities like the sauna rooms, steam baths, including a roomy gym area. The locker rooms have plenty of room for changing and showering. Late last spring our club had its new member's initiation for three young guys just accepted into our club. I was a mentor for one of them Some of the club's requirements included nude swimming and wearing only togas in the gym during group exercises. . I knew two of these new guy from our college alumni. They didn't know about the being nude club rule. These guys love wearing speedo swim suits, spandex shorts or men's leotards. On the initiation day they were sent to the locker room to put on their favorite and snuggest swim briefs. They really liked being in speedos and all three guys felt very relaxed having erections in their swim suits. The start of the initiation, was announced and the guys were sent back in the locker room,not knowing what was going to happen. A group of us senior member sat in the bleachers by the tiled pool area to watch the initiation. The three guys were told by the club sports manager, they will be called out, one at a time from the locker room, blind folded. Two young club swimmers will be their guides and to do what they were told by the guides. They will be judged by our club manager and directors, sitting with us in the bleachers. We will all cheer them on. After our club manager announced the start of the initiation process, the initiation began for these shy guys, still not knowing what was going to happen, the first new guy is blind folded and guided out of the locker to middle of the tiled pool area, directly across from us in the bleachers, wearing togas, as the manager directed the club swimmers guiding the new members select. The first guy looked great, his speedo was a bright yellow, outlining his full hard on. It seemed, the guys were told they will be escorted sexy women in bikinis. Little did they know. He was still blind folded as the manager had his guides turned him around a few times, then bend him over, snapping the snug leg bands of his tight yellow suit.He let a let out a yelp. This was okay with the judges, they wanted the new guys to start loosing their inhibitions and bare it all. He was turned around facing us again, he was shyly covering his hard on,well outlined in yellow. Now he was told to put his hands over his head, he nervously did it. The manager told the guides "loosen up his speedo". They slowly untied his draw string then pulling on the waist band. He still wasn't sure his swim suit was going to be stripped off him. "lower it" the manager said, it was some sight, watching the poor guy going through this unusual initiation. His dick was still very hard as he began enjoying his plight. Having his hands over his head, speedo pulled down just below his waist, with the dangling draw string, he was turned around twice for all of us to see how good his body looked. He passed with flying colors, now hearing the manager, telling his guides "Unsnug him". They began uncovering his full hard on now, as he squirmed and squealed, with his hands still over his head and blindfolded. The next new blind folded candidate was called and escorted out to the pool deck. He wasn't being cooperative with his guides as the were stripping off his tight purple speedo.He yelped and squirmed, trying to keep his suit from coming off, but to no avail. Later after the new member's initiation was over, the three guys went back into the locker room for a shower and change of clothes. They said it was shocker for them, being stripped out of tight speedo swimsuits by other guys and swimming naked in the pool.but they did like it. Everybody was good to them through their plights, they were good sports about it too. all three guys admitted that they jacked off together in the shower too. They rather wear speedo swim suits before swimming in the nude.

I don't think that anyone should be critical of guys who wear speedos at a nude beach. If you consider the idea of "clothing optional", that means one has the option to be nude or to wear a speedo, in this case, if one so chooses.

About 10 years ago, my wife and I were vacationing in the south of France in a small town called Ramatuelle, right near St. Tropez, where there was a nude beach nearby. I was 57 at the time and had never been to a nude beach, so I decided to go a couple of times. My wife, who is less daring than I, was a very good sport and came along. I arrived in my speedo which I took off, and my wife remained in her one piece, feeling more comfortable that way and I didn't try to convince her to remove her bathing suit. There were people of all ages on the beach, most nude, some women just topless, some men in speedos, bikinis or thongs. There was one large family where the grandparents were nude as were the parents, a girl about 19 or 20 just topless, and a boy, 15 or 16 in a very low cut bikini. I guess the kids were not comfortable being nude in front of their family or each other.

So, my point is, people have the option to do as they wish for whatever reason and shouldn't be subject to suppositions about their reasons. I must say, at the age of 57, I felt very comfortable and free at that beach and wouldn't hesitate to do it again if the opportunity arose.

In the 1980's there used to many families on British naturist beaches, as boys reached puberty they would begin to wear speedos or shorts on the beach not only out of embarrassment at being naked in front of their parents but also as other boys would notice their full body tans in the showers at school and start taunting them about visiting nude beaches.
When boys reached manhood they would begin to loose their inhibitions and again go naked especially with friends of their own age.
When the great paedo hunt of the 1990's began families began to disappear from British naturist beaches, mothers stayed with the children and the fathers moved to textile beaches with their families, all wearing increasingly long shorts. The naturist beaches were left to older childless couples and single men. Many of the single men were gay or became gay, sunning themselves discretely in dunes or among cliff alcoves. word spread that the former family naturist beaches were now gay attracted non naturist gay men some of whom wore speedos.

I am concerned about the story of the initiation ceremony at a health club above. It reminds me of the scene in Tom Brown's School Days where Tom Brown on his first day at school is forced to stand on a table and sing a song by the school bully Flashman. I have no problems with a health club having a naked swimming pool and sauna suite, either all the time or for special sessions, but blindfolds and being publicly stripped in front of a cheering crowd could be damaging to those men who were not willing or aware of what would happen.

I remember long ago they were reached by the little boats from Hyeres.

(PS for Louis - German troops were removed from the islands in August 1944 by US/Canadian special forces - they were a bit stubborn but as Senegalese soldiers were also participants in the operation it was thought preferable not to surrender to them)

I sometimes wear a speedo from the parking lot to the nude beach, sometimes gym shorts. Never both or a shirt. Why wear more than necessary when it's just going to come off when you get there?

I've been at a hotel in Netherlands where most of the patrons at the pool were naked. I went in with a 1/2 inch white bikini which I swam in for a short while until i went into the steam room where there were a couple of older ladies and one suggested that I might as well be naked since my bikini was so skimpy and basically transparent! So I slipped out of it there and then much to their pleasure!
