Making a gym workout fun
Gym exercise programs are difficult for a lot of people to maintain. A large share of the problem is that gym workouts can often be boring as all get out, but especially aerobic workouts that involve an activity for, say, 30 minutes non-stop. There are plenty of examples of these at the gym..the classic example I suppose is the treadmill. Without some diversion, working out for 30 minutes on a treadmill can be really boring.
Another boring workout device is a stationary bike. That is why there has been so much efforts to do things like set up TV screens that mimic what a rider might see on an actual bike ride, which is much less boring.
There are also other boring exercises and machines aimed at exercises that take place over, say a 30 minute period or longer,, things like steppers and stationary rowing machines. Generally speaking, its difficult for guys to maintain their workouts if the exercises are boring. I suppose we should also include simple walking and running as other boring exercises. Where lap swimming fits into all of this is a good starting point for discussion.
Generally speaking, guys tolerate exercises involving muscle building such as weight lifting far better and tend to get less bored with exercises that last a shorter period of time. The problem is that good exercises may very well need to include the boring stuff as well as the not-so-boring stuff in combination.
So what does all of this have toi do with Bill, Joe, Tony, Donovan and Dylan? Well for starters, a good daily exercise routine with a combination of aerobic and non-aerobic exercises, perhaps started in College, is something that a guy will want to maintain for a lifetime. There are many good combinations of the two, and each guy needs to sort out what works best for himself as an individual.
I know many of you are wondering what the “twist” here is going to be. Well, the twist is how boring or enjoyable you find your workout to be in part depends on what you wear to engage in the workout.
Bill and Joe have already sensed this, given what they are wearing. Tony and Donovan are on to this as well, given what they are wearing for their stationary rowing workouts. Dylan, clad in loose-fitting gym shorts and an equally loose-fitting tee shirt, so far at least, has not quite figured this all out.
Making a serious workout more fun and less boring is at least in part dependent on what the guy chooses to wear for the workout. Workout time almost always moves along a little faster for a guy if he is at least a little turned on, as in, feeling at least a little warm in the groin area. I suppose the “classic” example of this is the lap swimmer clad in a Speedo® as the consummate illustration of what I mean, but what is going on here runs parallel to this. Bill and Joe are clad in compression gear with straps and cups underneath. Tony and Donovan are clad in singlets both wearing thongs with cords running snuggly up their respective butts. These four guys are all certainly feeling something that seems erotic, even before beginning to exercise.
Bill and Joe are both planning on first hopping on the stationary bikes for a 30-minute ride. Tony and Donovan are hopping on the stationary rowers for a 30-minute ride as well. All this movement given the items they are wearing, well, could cause more stuff to happen. We will just have to see! Poor Dylan! He seems to know that something is up, but he is not quite sure what, yet. Is there anything somehow “wrong” with all of this? I think not!
…..To be continued.
