I mirror Torchwatch's sentiments; especially with aussiebums; they are usually made of a less stretchy nylon, and the liner helps keep the shape of the suit on your body.

I will say, though, I am guilty of having cut the liner out of several swim briefs of mine (the liner flattened everything out in an uncomfortable, ken-doll way; they were mainly cheap suits); just keep in mind that if you do decide to go ahead and trim it out (your suit, your decision, after all), you must live with the consequences; keep your hand steady, and go very slowly with careful, short and calculated cuts.

to this day, I have nicked exactly one suit and sure as Torchwatch said, it holed out within two days total of light wear.
