Retro Speedos
1 Attachment(s)
Reorganising my drawers of swimwear, I found this pair of Speedos (dating from the 1980's, and I think, produced in time for the LA Olympics - could someone confirm or refute this fact).
Anyway, the sun is out, so thought I would wear them again |
I've looked quite a bit and can't find any leads. Sorry! Nice suit though!

LA Olympics
I had a suit with the same star pattern but in Navy blue which I believe was an LA Olympic style suit.

love them!!!
would love a pair! anything with stars on them and retro :) |
Loking fantastic, Phil
In looking at them, and noticing the stars, I immediately wondered if they were from or inspired by the Olympic games held in Los Angeles in 1984.
I see now another has suggested the same thing, so I am guessing my initial hunch may be correct. In doing a little searching I did find, however, that the official team suits were solid blue made by Arena. ![]() At any rate, Phil, that is one sweet suit, and you wear it very well! |
olympics
Here is a photo from the 1984 olympics:

the diving team (Greg Louganis) wore white suits but the pattern on the front was entirely different -- covered most of the front of the suit.

Way back in the 70's, I worked at Scout camp for several summers. All the staff wore speedos back then - every one of us - it was the style. It didn't hurt that we were all pretty much bronze gods from working outside all day all summer and most of us were 16-19 years old and in our prime. My speedo suit (again, it was the 70's) was an orange paisley print - wish I could find a pic of it. It would be quite the throwback.

Scout Camp
From what I heard about scout camp in the 60's and 70's you were overdressed compared to many of them where swimsuits were rarely worn.

I found my 1986 Speedo brand recreational suit made with a corduroy textured two-wat stretch and lined. Very provocative cut for the time. Wore it on my Catalina 25 sailing the inland lake and enjoyed it all day long. It was a ball hugger with no pouch cut, but, was very comfortable.
