Membership

:p LOL - strange to have read of members being "driven away" and my last check on the stats. indicated 676 board members. Looking again today I see that figure has risen to 842.
Sounds promising so maybe a lot more scope for some interesting threads to appear in forums?
Might that be possible ? - are all you new members out there reading this?

Torchwatch 05-27-2014 09:53 AM

I t takes time for new members to commit themselves to starting or replying to threads, they need to know that their opinions and experiences will be accepted and valued rather than ridiculed. What you wear to swim in is close to your body and may be hard to talk about at first.

RE: membership

I liked your comments Torchwatch. As a new member, I agree, it's very important to me to know that my posts will be accepted for what they are and that I am not being judged. And for folks to know that opinions are neither right nor wrong.

And hopefully not loosing the password for a few months lol

Byron 06-01-2014 02:23 PM

password ?

LOL - empathy with a fellow forgetful member there - but what forum password do you need having been given your membership of the board ?

Byron 06-01-2014 02:29 PM

.."will be accepted"...

Agree - and childish remarks such as "I don't care what you think" are hardly conducive to intelligent debate.

knikon 06-01-2014 06:44 PM

I Forgot the password to my email (not my main box) so when I reset my password I couldnt retrieve it lol. Oh the trouble a new cellphone will get you into...

Byron 06-03-2014 08:27 PM

timely warning...

LOL - my troubles to come perhaps - just acquired new mobile with big buttons
as getting everything wrong with the previous tiny ones was driving me nuts
(are you old enough to remember them as big as a brick and with a pull-out aerial?)

Crail 06-03-2014 09:20 PM

Timely warning

I'm old enough to remember when there was no TV :D

sebbie 06-03-2014 09:23 PM

When I was growing up we were so poor I did not even HAVE a computer.

Dooley67 06-03-2014 09:55 PM

When I was in graduate school, I used a hand crank calculator and a rexograph machine (like a mimeograph) because there were no photocopy machines then.

life and technology

I don't recognise that brand although I well remember hand-cranking Gestetners
and going through the messy process of refilling the drum with ink.
Actually we have come full circle - the inventor in Twickenham has sold many
of his wind-up portable radios, to be reenergised in remote areas of the world where people are not able to stroll down to the local shop for new batteries.

knikon 06-04-2014 02:56 AM

Lol... Im not old enough to have used the brick phones. But the casette tape and floppy were standard when I was a kid.

Old technology

Popped in to see this

Really brought back memories ~ and gives me ideas about what to do with the junk in my cellar.

Elvis

I still have Elvis Presley on a big old 8-track continuous loop tape cassette - but not the player (which went with the car when sold). Forgotten their name but it was a market battle between them and the little music cassettes at the time - and the music cassettes won.

missing new member

What happened to the guy of a few days ago who wanted a special swimsuit to keep him dry because of an apparent chlorine allergy? Tw will remember as he was worried about him seeing a doctor because some conditions lead to skin cancer - but all posts disappeared from the forum it seems.
(a very strange request for advice - not sure he was the genuine article)

knikon 06-09-2014 05:13 AM

Maybe has a crazy wife...

Torchwatch 06-09-2014 06:49 AM

His thread disappeared yesterday at around 16-00hrs BST.
Was going to suggest the use of non chlorine pool sanitizers eg ozone that have less aggressive chlorine effect.
Also since neoprene lets in water a Lycra UV suit might be more appropriate, start with a rash guard shirt maybe.

Byron 06-09-2014 07:47 AM

OK...thanks

All very odd (found him posting on SpeedoForum back in February - that time asking how to get an American suntan)

PSDave 06-10-2014 05:59 PM

don't know what the reasoning is with having to sign in. I am hoping it is because I haven't been on for a few weeks. If it is a daily thing then this is my last visit.

Crail 06-10-2014 06:20 PM

Signing in

PSDave - unless I'm doing something wrong, signing is is a daily "chore" for me.

sebbie 06-10-2014 08:08 PM

When you sign in, click on the box beside "remember me" to put a check mark and you will be fine!

Crail 06-10-2014 10:17 PM

Sebbie - thank you, kind sir

Sebbie, when we were growing up, only the government and giant corporations had computers. They took up entire rooms and ran on 360 kb of memory. (IBM360 mainframe)

AND, we walked 10 miles each way to school and both directions were uphill. :)

knikon 06-11-2014 06:36 AM

In the snow barefoot too...

Byron 06-11-2014 11:12 AM

both directions

This reminds me of the joke about the guy struggling to work one morning on his bike against a gale force wind. His legs are so tired in trying to make any headway that he says "I sure hope this wind has turned around by the time I come home this afternoon"

Dooley67 06-11-2014 12:54 PM

And we had to write on slates at school to do our arithmetic.....

Torchwatch 06-11-2014 02:51 PM

Arithmetic? You mean you weren't taught in Roman numerals?

Byron 06-11-2014 03:07 PM

the good old days...

Who remembers Monty Python and the four Yorkshiremen?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe1a1wHxTyo

Dooley67 06-11-2014 03:31 PM

Yeah, I was taught in Roman numerals. That's why we needed such big slates.
