IU Purdue Swimming and Diving Meet
I was watching the Purdue vs IU swimming and diving meet on what must be the Big Ten Network on an obscure BTN cable channel. All the guys were in briefs for both swimming and diving.
The Purdue guys usually wore simple black briefs but the IU guys were mainly in briefs with wide vertical red-and-white stripe suits, maybe 3/4 inch stripes. No jammers at all... IU won the meet but Purdue won the big relay as the last event. Purdue is my alma mater. Everyone looked great! Sebbie |
the event sounds great. but unfortunately I couldn't find videos on youtube.

Keep watching at this link
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5FEA5A7F6D81DA88 they have preview interviews with some of the participating Purdue swimmers but since the event was live yesterday the videos of the meet on BTN arent up yet. I susoect they will be |
I'm not surprised that you saw the guys in race briefs. I have noticed the trend over the few years at the high school level has been back to briefs, a little more each year. In fact, I posted last year that the team I coach was jammer-less for the first time in years. This year I have two guys who do jammers, but they are getting prodded by the other guys to switch back to briefs. I think the end of the long leg and full body tech suits might have part to do with it. Also, swimmers like Ryan Lochte, Michael Phelps and Diver Tom Delay, who are very comfortable and confident in briefs might also be a driver. At the college level, I don't think briefs ever really went totally out of appeal, many of the best swimmers hate the feel of the lycra grabbing their legs. In the end, however, it is about the suit that will help produce the best time, and at the college level every bit helps in a close event. I am jealous of a swim meet on TV. The best we had in college was the occasional photo spread on the sports page.

I was at the Navy/Penn State meet last weekend - all the guys except maybe 2 wore brief suits. This is not unusual - college guys almost all wear brief racing suits for their in-season meets against another school. However, the next few weeks will be the meets that REALLY matter - the conference championships (Big Ten, Pac-10, SEC, ACC, etc.), and I guarantee you nearly all the guys will race in jammer suits. Why? It has nothing to do with 'modesty' - the longer suits cover more of your skin with that super-slick, super-fast fabric, and encasing the upper legs in the jammers supports the thigh muscles so they don't get tired as quickly (this told to me by a college swimmer a few years ago).

On the subject of swimming, here's site that has a lot of videos of guys in conventional speedos:

I swim three days a week at the Purdue Aquatic Center...and occasionally the men's swim team practices. You see a whole range of body types and sizes, but its the speedos that are attention gathering. I think back in the fall there was a big fundraiser for breast cancer, and the guys had special suits made that various shades of pink, with some grey, white, black in there. They wear them for local meets and for practice, but mostly the guys wear black speedo briefs, as do the divers, although one or two have the red, white, blue USA brief. The Health and Kinesiology Dept runs a swimming class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings for majors and anyone into phys ed or training or therapy, there is always one guy, sometimes a second, rarely a third of the dozen or so guys in the class, that wears a Purdue brief speedo - but its not plain black, it is a mix of black, white, and gold, with the word Purdue on the backside and the train and big P along the side. I've never seen a swim team member in these, so I am wondering where they come from, maybe the old practice suit, but these boys in the class are not on the team, they are in a class. Either way, it does make the mornings that I swim laps very nice to see these guys in little speedos, the one guy is especially a hottie, with a great butt, decent bulge too.

black/white/gold
Interesting speedo - needs investigating
(welcome as new member today from Indiana) |

Thank you! It is always worth to go work out and swim laps, it is all the more easier knowing there is eye candy at the pool...well not everyone is eye candy...but certain guys on the swim team, and certain divers are nice. The general population who swims ranges all over and runs the entire spectrum. But the one guy in the HK swim class on weekday mornings is very much worth the effort to swim the laps. If anyone is in the Lafayette area and would like to hang out and talk speedos etc...drop me a line. |
IUperdue.......

Is this anywhere close? It is a custom design by AgonSwim for the Purdue water polo team but so far not found the swimmers. (I hope Sebbie is reading this)(IU alumnus who might know more) PS: I get mixed up with Purdue IU and Boilermakers - the words sometimes used in combination |

Oh dear Purdue and IU are very different - please do not get us mixed up! lol That being said the design you share is one the one I have seen on one and sometimes two guys in the Health-Kinesiology swim class when I am swimming my laps at the Purdue Aquatic Center...part of the brief is also white, and the logo is also partly gold. The guy who attracts my attention in this class shaved his beard between Wednesday's class and today...but he is still a hottie - and he looks great in the speedo suit. I'm guessing it is a 2'" side brief suit, but it is very tight fitting on him (and the other boy who wears one who has a larger almost beefy build but still carries the speedo very well)... |

Purdue swimmers still elusive - diver here with yellow side flash on his black speedo |
As close as they can get to old gold which is the Purdue color w/o doing a metallic not yellow.
|
Purdue
Thanks Sebbie - but still very frustrating that with so much Purdue website content available nothing shows up for the swimteam and the loco. logo.
|
The true Purdue colors are black and what is sometimes called old gold. Tee shirts are oftem imprinted with metallic paint gold on black cloth. This is impractical, however, for a lot of logoed stuff. So what the manufacturers do is come up with a cloth colored as close as possible to a metallic gold, but its cloth. The gold color ends up looking a little different depending on howthe manufacturer did this, with some using almost a pure yellow. Often it ends up being something of a very subdued dusty or somewhat "discolored" yellow-like color. In looking at the swim briefs the Purdue swimmers are wearing, I would say this is pretty much what happened. What you see as yellow is not a bright yellow, but a dusty goldish, yellowish color.

On the subject of swimming & diving I ran across this vid of another skimpy (and colorful) suit:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whRmiq0ISP4 I don't know the brand, but who cares!!! |
and purple....

old gold
Re.post#26 here is a black Speedo which presents well without looking yellow in the side flashes. The strange white emblem at the front I cannot however determine:

purdue P
Thats a Purdue P logo, if you blow it up, you can see the classic diagonal Purdue P
|
These Purdue Guys may have overdid it just a bit on the undersizing!

P for Purdue
Yippee - got there in the end (though need new specs.)
Thanks Sebbie - had seen the footballers before and imagined myself just bouncing off them if I attempted a tackle ! |
P on cap
Sebbie - have I picked up another Purdue swimmer here?
(the black Speedo seems to be quite plain, unless there is a butt logo too) http://25.media.tumblr.com/4f9b49962...qhqo1_1280.jpg |
Byron - I believe that swimmer is a member of the University of the Pacific team (located in Stockton, California). The "P" with that orange slice through it is similar to the baseball caps the university sells here: http://shop.pacifictigers.com/
|
the cap gold is completely the wrong shade for Purdue.
|
Swimboy is right. Note the little Orange thingy on the top left corner of the "P" on both photos. And that's a TIGER gold colored cap not Purdue Old Gold.

makes sense...
Had my doubts - thanks for enlightenment guys
(funnily enough it's a black lion's head I am also trying to retrace for the cap on the guy in the unmarked little blue speedo) |
Is the orange thingee on the "P" supposed to be a tiger tooth or a tiger claw, or both?
|
Pacific
Just for Swimmboy - but from the WP team this time and a great pic. of no.8:
http://24.media.tumblr.com/516af1b09...qhqo1_1280.jpg I could not make out the team logo on his black suit but it is no doubt a Tiger head. Note for Sebbie: this PACIFIC on swim cap is without the claw or tooth snags (an extra printing chore thought not to be necessary on fabric perhaps) PS: Worth looking at some good WP vids produced by Pacific Sports too (amongst a total of 48): http://www.pacifictigers.com/sports/m-wpolo/video/index |
Yep, those water polo guys are studs for sure. University of the Pacific has had a great water polo team for many years, and a great swim team as well. A guy who grew up near me (on the U.S. East Coast) attended college there - and won two gold medals on the US Olympic swim team in Atlanta in 1996 - then attended the Sydney Olympics playing water polo for the US WP team!
