Nunzio Miano swim briefs may be worth a look. He's an Italian designer now based out of Austrailia. His suits have very eye catching designs and definitely emit an Italian vibe.
I recently bought a pair off EBAY. Although I haven't tried them out in the pool yet (not quite warm enough here in KY) they appear very well made and the fit is very nice.

I'd also like to add these into the mix. They are Fab Sportswear "I Love Italy" Briefs, and they come in both white and blue, both of which I like! Although I'm a bit worried about the white ones showing age quicker with dirt and stains and such.
