So I've seen swim jocks advertised and occasionally heard guys refer to them. But I've never worn one, and I've never noticed anyone wearing them.

So here's my question: What are swim jocks for?

A) To give a well-endowed guy extra support
B) To keep a nearly worn-out suit from being too risque
C) To wear on its own, as a sexy swimsuit
D) Fetish wear
E) All of the above

Or is it something else? Do any of you wear a swimjock under your speedo?

A and B
No - an accessory from the past - know of nobody who wears them now

Swim jocks go back to the days before lycra, even before nylon. In those days fabrics would go floppy in water and anything might pop out.
Swimming trunks were for a time like mini shorts or square cuts without leg elastic and a swim jock was worn to keep things in place.

As nylon square cuts with leg elastic and then swim briefs became available swim jocks were not needed. Especially as the modern competative suits had liners built into the front.

At a time when I was buying a black and a red jock Litesome jock strap for my running shorts, I also bought as Litesome swim jockstap because it was in the shop, i havn't seen one since. It was a brief lightweight jockstrap with narrow waist elastic. The leg elastic of the swim jockstrap were bigger than my speedos and tended to be visible so I never wore it in the water.

There seems to be a fashion in cruising clubs for wearing coloured jockstraps at the moment. The briefer swim jockstraps getting some attention.

Although guys swim in swim thongs i have not heard of anyone swimming in swim jockstraps alone.

They are still sold- any jock that has narrow waist and leg straps can be considered one. I usually carry one in the glove compartment just is case I have a chance to tale a dip on a hot day in a cool stream. You just splip it on whatever you have for underwear-especially loose boxers. When you get done just go home commando.

My answer is "none of the above". I can't imagine wearing a swim jock now, but when I started swimming as a teen, I wore one to keep everything under control in my Speedo.

Rather than add my experience to this thread, I've posted it in the stories area.

The swim jocks made sense to wear under a nylon brief when there were lots of looser fitting nylon suits out there with 3-inch sides. The jock held everything in place so stuff wouldnt move around.

But a tight-fitting lycra suit with a front panel support obviates the need for a swimming jock, since these suits automatically confine the goods making another layer of support from the jock unnecessary.

The swimmers jock might still make sense for guys wearing boardshorts that typically have a full nylon or mesh brief sewn inside as a liner. In this case the swimmers jock would be the first layer. But it would be commin to use a Lycra brief instead of a swimmers jock.

The "downfall" of the classic jock was cause buy two things in my view-the use of compression shorts in basket ball and other sports and the invention of Jogbra by two near neighbors of mine who cut up 2 jocks to make the pro-type of what is now a jogbra now under the Champian label!

All rather confusing.
How does the cut up of two male jocks
produce a woman's bra and is Champian
Champion ?

A pic might help - Google doesn't seem
to know anything about this product.

The Jogbra is now made by Champian (sorry for sp.) You take each basket-less straps- take each end that is under your ass and sew together-reposition straps sewn around back and over shoulder. They used my jocks!

Now called Champian Sports Bra. Jogbra was located in Essex,Vermont with over 200 employees-was so successful that the girls decided to cash out. That's the story too often about great products that are invented in the great State of Vermont!

Does anyone have opinions on jockstraps where the waistband does not roll? (i.e. the band starts to fold so it does not lie flat on the waist)

This item claims to avoid that and get good reviews. One person says it was worn to the pool (I presume under loose shorts)

Waistbands usually roll because of belly flab.
The reviews for the McDavid are consistent in mentioning that it holds a cup well, but is pretty much worthless without one.

For those social situations when board shorts are more appropriate than wearing a Speedo, a Speedo worn under them does everything a swim jock does, but dries quicker and the straps won't pop out over the waist.

I used to wear a swim jock many years ago, like 35 years ago, when I occasionally wore swim shorts that look like today's board shorts. The jock was much more narrow than a regular jock with a very narrow waistband. The shorts were unlined and needed a swim jock just like today's boarders need a speedo underneath them. But then again, today, why wear a speedo underneath board shorts, just wear the speedo!

I don't think they are marketed any more. They were of course minimal in all parts in order not to show beyond the outline of your swimming trunks and so what benefit they were for support and/or modesty I never quite understood.

I think that swimmer jockstraps were and still are intended for wear underneath swimming shorts that do not have a liner or that have a liner that is not adequately supportive.

You don't want the wide waistband of a regular jockstrap sticking up above your shorts when shirtless and you don't want all of the water-trapping fabric of cotton briefs.

The swim jock is the only kind of jockstrap I see sold in some stores anymore.

Do a search on "swimmers athletic supporter" on amazon.com and you will see many of them, each slightly different. All hve a narrower waistband than a standard strap

Thanks for info. Sebbie.
I was a bit alarmed at tsam saying "the only kind" as for example I would think the rugger players for a start would want something more substantial.

re: Belly flab

Now I have an excuse to try to exercise more to avoid the roll in the waistband!

Swim jocks might not be sold at Sports Authority, but I still need one for my large, prominent circumcised glans (head). When wearing a brand like Sauvage squarecuts, which are intentionally unsupportive with reduced amount of spandex, I don't want women to see the length and width of my head !!!  And I am also 5" flaccid.

re: waistband does not roll

I discovered that the McDavid waistband does not roll. It's made of nylon, spandex and polyester. That's unlike Bike supporters' waistband that's made of polyester and rubber. They are a bit larger than Bike's waistband for the same size so it does not get stretched as much.

I have a few swim jockstraps such as the Aqua jock by N2N as well as swim thongs at home and have used them at my local gym. The Speedo swim thongs are my favorite but they stopped making them. I even wore a re swim thong to a Disney water park all day long and another Disney water park all night long. If I lived near a nudist beach I would wear the swimjocks and swimthongs alot. How many others have worn either swim thongs or swim jocks at your local pool?

I think swim jockstraps under a worn or small suit is a great option

So yes! I have worn the swim jocks by themselves for a swim suit and yes my local gym fully supports these jockstrap style suits as well as swim suit thongs.

there seems to be two swim jocks on the market right now. The original that was worn under swimwear for support ant protection. The material was lighter weight than the regular sport jocks.
They are also selling them in colors and patterns to be worn as swimsuits. They are often regular swimsuit fabric and not the conventional support knit. They work fine and look great but because of the exposed anus when you bend over can't be worn in many situations.

My first running club trained in a sports ground belonging to an international paper company. There were football (soccer) pitches on both sides of the motorway, a small river, tennis courts, an oast house used as a clubhouse, other team changing areas and an outdoor sauna. In summer one of the football pitches was turned into a grass running track and we would use the nearby changing rooms. We did outdoor resistance training on the embankment that had been raised to hide the motorway (and dump spoil) but to get there we would have to run close to the outdoor sauna. Going past the sauna one summer evening a man came out of the sauna and ran along with us for a while dressed only in a jock strap. As we were dressed in split nylon running shorts and vests we were a little surprised, not so much shocked but wondering if he was "allowed" to do this. After a while he broke away from us to go on his own circuit around the sauna to which he returned. He seemed confident in running around in the open air in just his jockstrap as if it was something he was used to doing and as the sports grounds were private property he was probably not breaking any laws. So, if you can get away with it running in a jockstrap is a possibility.

I have a number of swim jocks - not sure why, but I liked the contrast with the traditional wide-waist band ones. Then recently, I found a use for them. I had removed the lining from a white Zodsports suit and found it so completely transparent that it completely unusable for my laps unless I wear one of the jocks!

with the material these jock straps are made of could be wrong under swimsuit or even as a swimsuit! The entire rear would be on display

Vega, could only look at one, the first one had been removed, the 2nd has a wider waist band than a typical swim jock. You need a narrower waistband to wear under a speedo and some guys still wear them, i've seen in the locker room at the local pool.

So I read that some private locations allow jockstraps for running outdoors. It would be a way to stay cool.
