There are some people who should not wear Speedo's, or any swimsuit for that matter. But, several of the photos in here are not awful, and a few are pretty nice. It's not the suit, but the bodies in it that are offensive.

Yes, handing bullets to the enemy I guess.
The first thumb is the old Scots rocker Rod Stewart (Maggie May) -
noted for many wives and who was looking very smart in a dark suit and tie on tv last week.
The fat guy with the big crucifix I have seen many times - I think he is a
US rapper and/or comedian.
Mark Spitz doesn't deserve to be included - though his choice of speedo there would not be mine.

I agree with Byron, putting Mark Spitz in this was an outrage. And I love the suit he has on. Along with Phelps, he was the greatest swimmer ever. Anyone who has him in the "anti speedo" category is just jealous!

Ugly people look ugly in speedos, they also look ugly in board shorts, jeans or even a suit and tie.
It is not the fault of the speedos, board shorts, jeans or business suits.

The publisher of the webpage has a malicious desire to insult and hurt ugly people simply because he can, hurting other people just because you can is the basis of bullying, and it is International Anti-Bullying Week this week.
It seems a bit perverted to start a collection of beach photos of ugly people.

So what should ugly people wear on the beach and whose business is it anyway?

Same mentality as the anonymous* malicious Twitterers I guess.

*Interesting - lawyers for the Peer in the recent paedophilia slur reckon
they are tracking down 10000 posters now for possible libel actions.

Mark Spitz pic was not in that group. If you're thinking the diver is Mark, it is not. Mark has never had that long hair and is not a diver. There were a couple good bods and a couple that had missed the gym a few times, but this too often represents what we see at the beach or pool

Whatever they want! Its the personality inside the body that counts.

I Tottallyagree With Torch... And Briefstyle, We Should Look At The Inside Of A Person Before The Physical Aspect Of That Person, I Would Choose As A Friend The Ugly Person Depending On Tthe Caracter, Anyway Anyone Making Fun On A Persons Looks Shoulld Be Ashamed Of Himself Especially Those That Have Nice Body S That Do, Having A Nice Looking Body Does Not Make A Person A Good Person His Caracter Does, I Could Name A Few People That Were Relatively Ugly Physically But Have Bene Extremely Estemed By The Whole Wide World Compared To Some That Have Nice Looks And Nice Body S.the Most Important Is To Sheesld Our Own Caracters Then Concentrate On The Outside. Sorry For The Misspellings.

At first I thought it was Spitz, but then had the same thoughts as you. However, when Byron also determined it was him, I third guessed myself... at any rate, despite the long hair, which was probably the look at the time, as is the suit style, I think the guy looks great in the suit he has on.

I was about to apologise for misnaming and I did think where are the stars and stripes on the speedos if it is MS in '72?
There is a long-haired guy in mid-dive but I was not looking at him - I was looking at the hair, the tach, the teeth, the medal ????????????????????????

None of those are Mark Spitz. At 1:20 in the 72 Olympics/Spitz video you see a handsome blond American introduced - that's Gary Hall, the father of future Olympic swimmer Gary Hall. Jr.!

Byron

 since when did blond Gary Hall have a black tach ?

Time to bring this to an end I think:
Just do a web images search on "Mark Spitz Speedo" and you will see (twice) the same pic which appeared amongst the uglies in the first place.

"Confusion reigned and they all got wet" - not a very good joke but appropriate.

I wouldn't call any of the guys ugly.( a couple actually look good in speedos) There is one though, the guy in the yellow g-string that is cinched in around his waist. That, to me, looks totally creepy! (not to mention painful!)I would, however, say that they are in need of either serious diet, exercise and/or a professional wardrobe consultant. It is unfortunate that when we look in the mirror we see what we want to see, or how we wish we looked. I know whenever I go shopping for speedos I always ask a friend to check me out wearing the suits and take a pic or two to see if they look as good as I think I do. (never ask the salesman, he may be on commission) Besides, shopping speedos with friends is more fun than doing it alone. My good friends will tell me -- "Dude! Not those speedos. You're not a model. Either get back in better shape or a different suit"

Watching the vidoe from 1972 (See Byron post above), it is interesting to see how much more brief the traditional Speedo suit has become. In the early 90's, (late 80's) the suits got real brief with the paper suit era. After that, male competitive swim attire made a big shift the other way. Funny that when Jammers and the more technical swim suits came along, the briefs appear to have not moved back toward the wider side seams.

On a side note, it is cool that more and more younger swimming guys are moving back to briefs( in my observation), at least for practice.

Just because a picture shows up in an internet search for 'mark spitz speedos' doesn't mean it's Mark Spitz - in just the first four rows of pictures I saw one of Greg Louganis and one of Michael Phelps......

Gary Hall is the guy in a white USA tee-shirt - don't see a black 'tache' on him, though the video is rather poor....

About 'brief' suits reappearing - they never really left. Nearly every collegiate swimmer in the US practices daily in a brief Speedo (or other brand suit). During the regular season, most also compete in brief suits, saving the jammers for the big end-of-season meets where they strive for best times to try and qualify for the NCAA championships. I can't even count the number of college meets I have attended over the past 20 years as both a fan and a stroke/turn judge - and the brief suits are always the dominant suit until the final one or two meets.

post#19 - stupidly missing the point again - I am quite aware of what Gary Hall looks like (father AND son if you wish to be pedantic) but is there any other swimmer, and particularly one with seven medals from 1972, with a black moustache?? If you want to believe the pic was photoshopped so be it.

Btw, if you want to enjoy MS's sense of humor look up what he said to Russian swim coaches about the advantages of his lip covering.

"stupidly missing the point again" - please control your temper, Byron. We have had enough rude people on this board. Please take your nasty comments elsewhere.

Disagreements are fine, in fact are healthy, but I also agree that using the phrase of "stupidly missing..." is over the top. Drop the "stupidly" and the statement makes the same point without the added insult (for which we all should have zero tolerance). In the grand scheme of things, whether it is Spitz of Hall is really not all that important to create this level of angst.

The last response post is just uncalled for and rude.

A red herring of 1:20 was introduced in post #14 but I had not suggested 1:20 in the first place.
Another illogical challenge appeared in post#19 and thus stupidity does enter the equation whether you like the word or not.*

Take the "un" off "uncalled for" and refer to the attempt I HAD ALREADY MADE to bring the matter to a close in post#16 - and I agree with you that the argument is long past its sell-by date !

*Don't be such a drama queen - many such words of bold expression exist in the English vocabulary - and very much more enjoyable it is in the process
of their execution.
If such delicacy of temperament exists on this forum I hate to think what would result if I reproduced some of the freely expressed profanities to be easily found elsewhere on the 'net !

KMA... you do not own this board and you ought to stop acting like you do.

Byron

Yes, that's one of them - surprised you can stoop so low from your high moral platform to express it.
Well, you're ahead of me there - KMA is one I have never used and intend never to use on this forum.

So much for civilized discourse and keeping the new Speedo Board free of rancor.

Byron

Well, a year old now and time to reflect on progress perhaps.
Not bad I would say on the whole - MiniCooperS seems to be eliminated for one good thing and Mike* rapidly disposes of awful spammers (though they still try). The ongoing Story Center remains as popular as ever -
and plenty of space remains for enlivening discussion - my only regret being that we do not see lifesaveroz these days.

*and not to forget the addition of some thanks to him for keeping it going

the board has really thinned out but when a discussion gets going it is pretty good. Not as lively as before, but ok none the same. Judging by the dates, frequency of posts and visits have really slowed. I like to skip a week or so and see what has happened rather than the frequent visits when I first found it many years back (3 format changes so far)
As always, opinions are thought to be truths and start confusion. Lack of knowledge to the subject runs a close second. EX this whole Mark Spitz mistaken identity thing.
Still fun, but needs a shot in the ass occasionally!
