Much discussed of course but I don't think I have seen a survey and if this one is to be believed 35% of 3800 US respondents are offended.

It does not surprise me that roughly a third of respondents don't like brief swimwear on guys (US or otherwise). Tight swimwear on guys will always be abit of a topic. I suspect that level of dislike (roughly a third) is pretty constant across most places, even in Australia or Europe. I also suspect that about a third, give or take, prefer something other than board shorts. I have never found Australia or Europe to be all that much different when it comes to wearing a brief suit, despite the supposed higher acceptance. To be sure, there are beaches in Australia where they are very common, but there are beaches in the US where they are just as common.

What bugs me about the author's commentary is that he seems to tie age, sexual orientation or where one lives to acceptance. While I would agree gay guys are a bit more likely to wear revealing swimsuits, I do not equate brief swimwear as being gay, any more than I equate boardies as being straight. And, lots of older guys (above 40 in the story) look just fine in brief suits, just as much as lots of younger guys may not.

The comments are interesting to read....

The guy with the big tummy has bigger issues related to cardio and general health than the issues related to the choice of swimsuit. Putting weight on around the tummy is thought by many to be a normal part of aging. I assure you it is not! The excess weight on the tummy is due to a combination of a bad diet, high in sugars and saturated fats, coupled with a serious lack of the kinds of exercise that emphasize upper body and abs.

I see a lot of older guys trying to run off weight around the tummy. This is the tough way to do it. Most guys lose interest in running long before they get rid of the weight that way. Further, there is not enough upper body exercise to have any real impact on what are weak abdominal muscles. Guys with tummy weight problems as illustrated, if exercising at all, are often doing the wrong linds of exercise.

There is a lot more going on here than merely steering clear of swim briefs if you have tummy weight issues.

Brief type are quit normal in Asia. But it could change because they see the style (board shorts) popular in the USA.

I wear Speedo type all my life. When I was in my 20s, I like 1/2" sides. Because here in the USA people mostly wear board shorts(except S.F.), after some giggles and negative incidents(feelings), I went to 1". Later I went to 2". Now I am moving to 6" (square cut). I mean, will I eventually go to 1 foot ?? :o

(Another reason I won't wear thongs, even though I would! )
