Specifically Maui. I've never been, but I'm going this year. I'm used to the Miami area and speedos are very prevalent there.
Everything I've googled says no. But does anyone else have any experiences with speedos in Maui (south Maui)? It seems it's a very family-oriented area. But I know what I'm comfortable wearing. :)

I say wear whatever you are comfortable in. Besides you will never see these people in Hawaii again!

We were on Maui a few years ago. Speedos aren't as common as in Miami but you may see a few. Nice beaches (south) around Kihei and Makena. Also Little Makena is an unofficial nude beach. Folks in speedos and thongs but very crowded. Not worth the effort getting there. North, the beaches in the Kaanapali / Kapalua area are nice too. Mostly tourists in board shorts. I spent 10 days at different beaches in a bikini with no problems. You just might not see many others, if at all.

When in Maui a few years ago I had no problem wearing my brief swimsuits at the condo pool or various beaches. I will say that any one wearing a brief was in shape not body builder shape but not terribly overweight. Not a nudist so did not look up any such places but that is not my interest. I will say that Isaw no males in thongs or anything approaching a thong and i am glad for that.
