If you are going in the water, wear a float belts or a vest. Will keep you safe.http://www.yorkshirecycletransfers.co.uk/adult-swimwear-unisex-women-men-swim-vest-float-jacket-swimwear-swimsuit-boys-girls-inflatable-swim-training-aids-for-learning-to-swim-surfing-beach-suit-b07g7ycws1-p-25457.html

I am amazed the number of men and boys who cannot swim. Why is this not an expectation for schools?

In England the requirement is for youngsters to be taught swimming at Key stage 1 or 2 of the National Curriculum - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-curriculum-in-england-physical-education-programmes-of-study/national-curriculum-in-england-physical-education-programmes-of-study

That is so super that kids get a chance to learn, have fun and be safe.

It is very good and relaxed for the children to learn this way. Even parents will be relaxed this way.
