All this talk about running on the beach in speedos and I have a photo of me doing it in 1988.

I really loved that white suit.
I took my 2nd RLSS Bronze Medallion and was working for Award of Merit in 1987.
I also completed the 1987 Canterbury Triathlon and got on local tv, but I doubt you'd want to see me on my bike in a red and light blue tri-suit.
The Herald of Free Enterprise capsized and sank on a lifesaving training night, heard about it on the radio as I arrived at the pool car park.
The weekend after the big storm of October 1987 I found a guy lying face down in the street not breathing. I brought him back but lost him about 6 times. I had trouble sleeping for a long time afterwards.
I never got the Award of Merit.
After a long winter it was good to get back to the beach in 1988, to put on my favourite white swimsuit and to run on the sand and in the edge of the sea in the warm sunshine.
