hi all
long time on and off speedo wearer, short time forum lurker, new member.
I guess I should start by introducing myself, and telling you all the story of why I'm here. As a toddler and a small child, I wore swim briefs and then later boxer-cut trunks to the age of about 11-12 when I switched to shorts (later board shorts) until I was either 14 or 15, when Casino Royale with Daniel Craig as James Bond came out.
My family went on holiday to Teneriffe that year, and whilst there I saw a pair of boxer cut trunks for sale in the same style but with the colours reversed. I knew that for boys of my age, tight fitting swimwear was not usually fashionable, but I played basketball for my school, swam pretty often, and lifted weights. Up until now, speedos had been the fashion choice of small boys and old men, but Bond had changed that. Now, if you had the confidence to pull them off, they could be cool.
I bought them, and took them back to the hotel, trying them on in the privacy of the hotel room, I admired myself in the mirror. They needed a bit of adjusting so they kept my bulge a bulge and not a point, but I looked good. I wasn't confident enough to wear them at first though, wearing them only under my shorts for 2 days, but on the third day after I'd bought them I went down to the pool early, before my parents were up and before breakfast, threw my towel over a sunlounger and slipped off my shorts before diving into the pool and swimming a few lengths. it felt good. as I climbed out, I noticed a girl around my age on a balcony watching me. I decided then to stick to swimming in the speedos. I know it's a form of exhibitionism, but it harms no one, and, if girls enjoy looking at a fit young man the way I enjoy looking at a fit young woman in a bikini, brightens a few peoples days.
After that, I swam in boxer cut trunks when I was on holiday (although after I was 17 we didn't go on holiday abroard again and )shorts when in england 'cos thats what all my friends wore. Unfortunatley between 16 and 18 I fell in with a bad crowd and started smoking, and generally living an unhealthy and unproductive lifestyle. Prior to this year I hadn't swam since I was 18.
At the start of the summer I found myself looking at old holiday photos of myself and wishing I'd kept fit. Although I'm not in terribly bad shape, I've nowhere near the muscle tone I used to have, and, as I often joke "haven't ran anywhere except away from the police in years." I realised then that I hadn't left it too late, and started swimming again at my local pool. At first I wore board shorts, in my mind speedos would look out of place on someone who could barely swim and when I first started again, I was worried I'd drown after the first length due to my weakened lungs. Within a week I felt healthier, and ordered a pare of jammers and a pair of boxer cut trunks online. I took both the jammers and the shorts down to the pool with me for almost a week before working up the courage to wear them, and when I did I got no funny looks, and swimming was so much easier that I haven't taken the shorts down since. Around a month ago I started wearing the boxer cut ones.
From what I've seen, most guys my age who swim lengths wear shorts, with about a third wearing jammers. Guys in there early thirties to mid forties who look like they go the gym a lot wear the boxer cut trunks, and guys over fifty wear speedo briefs (although theres one old dude who wears jammers at my pool)
I also now own 3 pairs of Aussiebum "Freshhh" trunks although I've not worn them to the pool yet. I kinda feel like the black addidas boxer cut trunks say "I swim lengths and wear the most efficient thing for that" the Aussiebums say "Look at me, I think I'm sexy!" and I don't think I look good enough to pull them off.... yet.
Well, that's pretty much the abbreviated story of myself and speedos up to today. Been swimming almost 3 months now 3-5 days a week and I'm doing half a mile in under 25 minutes. My abs are showing for the first time since my teens and I feel good.
I'll probably post some pics in a few days, seems like the polite thing to do on this forum.
again, Hi everyone.
Anyone else wanna share there story?
Anyone else in the uk on here?
Anyone else around my age on here? (I'm 24 btw)
TL;DR Wore speedos as a kid, stopped wearing them in early puberty but started again when casino royale came out. didn't swim for about 6 years, started again this year. wore shorts at first, then jammers, now boxercut trunks, soon hopefully aussiebums.
