Introducing Girlfriend to speedo

Hi Everyone,

So I've planned a trip to Cancun this December and I really wanted to wear a speedo. I've been wearing them for years swimming laps at the gum. But my problem is I don't know how open my girlfriend is to the idea. I also don't know how open she is to the idea of a speedo in any situation. The relationship is new and and she doesn't yet know know that I wear a speedo on a almost daily basis. Can I have some tips on how to approach this?

I've never had to deal with a girlfriend's opinion because I've specifically avoided dating while I finish up uni, but I have dealt with this with a few friends before so I know a little of what you're going through. I usually just bring it up in conversation (it appears casually to them, but I actually work it into the conversation somehow) and talk about how I've fallen in love with swimming for exercise and I've switched to a speedo since it is so much better for the quality of the workout. I've run into a few friends on the pool deck before while wearing a speedo, but no one has ever made a big deal about it; I'm just a guy wearing the proper attire for my workout, like a cyclist wearing Lycra or a runner wearing loose short shorts or a soccer/football player wearing cleats. Now, wearing a speedo casually on vacation, that I couldn't tell you because I've never done it.

But I would say this: she's going to find out about the speedos eventually, so what does it matter if the relationship is new or not? Either way she'd be dating a speedo wearer, so if that's a deal breaker for her, why not get it out of the way sooner rather than later so no time is wasted or hearts are broken?

i wouldnt really make a big deal about it

just pack a few speedos and when its time to swim just put it on and go to the pool/beach

the more confident and casual you are about it the less of a big deal it should be to her

Invite her to join you for lap swimming - and lap swimmers typically wear a speedo. Then it's no big deal. When I was in hi school on swim team we wore speedos....thus it was "normal" for us even if not for other guys. Lap swimming brings it to more normality in her mind.

Do not get stressed about wanting to wear your Speedos. You are obviously very comfortable about wearing swimming briefs when you are in the pool at the gym.
You have a month before your vacation so now is the time to start discussing with your girlfriend the clothing that you both will be taking with you, including her bikinis and your Speedos. Complement her on her choice of bikinis and possibly mention that you two will look good together and your swimwear will match.
Depending on your present level of intimacy, you could possibly have dressing up (or dressing down!) games at home when you both put on, and have fun, in your swimwear.
You could discuss about looking forward to getting a nice suntan while in Mexico and you think that getting a suntan line at knee level and having lilywhite thighs looks a bit strange.
How about inviting your girlfriend, as a guest member, to the gym so that you can both get swimming practice before heading off on vacation.
Do not worry, you will not be the only guy in Speedos on the beaches of Cancun or by the resort pools.

Have a great time in Mexico, enjoy wearing your Speedos, and most importantly, both of you enjoy your time together!

:p I wouldn't worry about wearing Speedo swimsuits with anyone, especially a girlfriend. I wear them a lot during the warm summer months and I find that my girl friend secretly likes me wearing them. If your'e in decent shape, good health and really like wearing speedos style swimsuits, I wouldn't be worried about it. I like them as underwear at times under snug shorts and know she likes seeing me in speedos, especially ones that are bright colored. I:p know a lot of guys who would rather be wearing speedo, TYR or Arena snug swimsuits than those awful baggy board shorts and they are in good shape too. I do especially enjoy wearing speedos when I'm with her, knowing she will be stripping them off me, even if wearing them as underwear.

You're probably in good shape being a lap swimmer. I'm sure it will come up in conversation that one of the ways you stay in shape is lap swimming. And, no news flash that lap swimmers often wear a speedo. So the fact that you wear a speedo to work out shouldn't come as a surprise. Now by the time you go on vacation, if she is unaware that you would prefer to wear a speedo on the beach or at the pool, you could just wear board shorts over your briefs. But since you are a distance swimmer, take the opportunity to pull out your googles, tell her that you are going to distance swim for 20 minutes, take off the shorts and go for it. When you get back to your chair leave the shorts off until you've dried off. If you are in good shape, she may just encourage you to keep the board shorts off to get a better tan. (Another approach could be to wear the board shorts in the water at first and then come back, take them off and tell her that the shorts are creating too much drag and throwing your breathing off...which they would do.)

My wife pretty much accepts my wearing a speedo. However, while I wear it in the water...swimming and snorkeling.... and in a lounge chair (for the tan), I do not generally parade around in one...I also personally feel more comfortable taking the opportunity to distance swim first. I think people are more accepting of swim briefs if they see you are actually a serious swimmer.

As a last suggestion I'd wear a solid dark or panel suit (black or navy). They look good and understate. A fun pattern or white would be a definite mistake...unless she picked it out. Good luck! (I do hate wearing board shorts in the water....but tolerate a TYR nylon drag short -with the liner cut out- on top of swim briefs....at a family beach.)

If you don't know her well enough to know her thoughts on Speedos, why are you taking her to Mexico? You've been dating during the summer months and swimming/beach was never a date?

If I were in your situation, I would pack my favorite swimsuits and wear them. I would not make it some big deal, I would not ask her ahead of time, and I would not hide the fact that you like a style of swimwear. She obviously finds you attractive. I also would not worry about wearing some specific color, wear whatever color or print you like. Unless you go swimming together before the trip, when the time came to go to the beach or pool, I would just pop into my swimsuit and be yourself. I would keep the style to a regulat swim brief cut, not too revealing, and certainly not a thong or pouch cut. Be confident and casual, it won't be an issue. Who knows, she might like you in them so much it leads to activities beyond swimming and sunshine.

I wish I had the guts to do that. That is the kind of person I would like to be. But I've always been shy. I have a speedo "the one brief" in navy blue that looks great on, it is extremely flattering, dosen't show too much but just enough. Very sporty looking. I do swim almost every day. So I'm in pretty good shape. To be honest I think even the board shorts or trunk type could be swayed over.

Am I missing something? If your girlfriend's seen you naked then why would she object to seeing you in brief swimwear?

If that is the case, she must be worried about what other people think. But if you're not bothered, then that shows self-confidence - and that impresses women.

if you're a lap swimmer, then there's no problem. Just tell her that you'd like to tan in your speedo so you don't have awkward tanlines when swimming at the pool in your speedo. If she doesn't understand why you wear speedos for swimming laps, just tell her that everyone does.

Tell her that you have been swimming/waterpolo/diving (whichever one applies) since you were a little kid. It's been a thing that you don't even give a second thought to.

Also, tell her that in order for you to "improve on your lap speed", you must wear a speedo/bikini, otherwise the drag factor with basketball shorts (LOL) will not help.

If she works out or swims, she probably knows all about mens Speedo suits. At the very least she would have seen them at the sport shop when she was purchasing a bathing costume.
