Do the rubber water polo suits still exist outside of Japan? I've seen the $100+ ebay auctions going, but I'm just trying to see if they're still produced.

Cheers!

Do a google search. There is probably a producer of rubber suits somewhere.

Thanks Sebbie I couldn't remember Mizanu at all that's why I suggested a google search I thought Mizanu would have at least been mentioned.

There are two types of stretchy rubberlike fabrics that can be used in swimwear. You could actually use rubber, but I don't know of anyone who swims in it and it requires the use of talc on the body before wearing or you cannot get real rubber clothing off again. Rubber clothing also needs polishing to make it shiny while the stretchy rubberlike fabrics have a shine when dry.

Stretch PVC: Lycra fabric with a thin layer of PVC "glued" to it. It is like a layer of (black) Selotape or Scotch tape stuck to black Lycra. The PVC in this fabric is not breathable, you will sweat beneath garments made of this fabric. Also the PVC will start to split and shred off if it is overstretched. Not sure what happens to this fabric in water.

Stretch Polyurethane: This fabric can be made to look like rubber or faux leather, it is more stable and longer lasting than stretch PVC though less shiny. It is breathable so less sweaty to wear, made into swimwear it would cling to the body and yet be slippery if grabbed from the outside (eg in water polo).

I have some of each of these fabrics, if someone would like a swim brief made in either fabric (but can't buy one ready made) let me know.

Hey Torchwatch,

I did find this: https://bodyaware.com/product/view/swimwear/briefs/rubberman-swim-s458 after looking on Google with different keywords, and will be ordering it, but I am interested in the Stretch Polyurethane. Are these the ones like on ebay? or do you have a pic of a pair?

Private message me an address and I could mail you a sample.

I have a variety of design patterns and can adapt them as desired, so if you want a suit made tell me what you want, it could be unique.

Hi everyone, just found this cool forum!
I had some black waterpolo trunks made in the UK by Speedo that fitted me perfectly.
359
They fell apart last year after quite a lot of use in the pool as well as on the beach. The Mitzuno trunks, made for the Japanese market, I'm guessing, which I got to replace them just aren't the right cut and don't fit my more muscular British arse!

I have a pic wearing them, but probably not for here!
I would love to get a similar pair as the old Speedos, but it seems that no one makes them anymore which is a shame as they looked and felt great and ideal for waterpolo matches. Would be interested if anyone can help me. Cheers.

I have been a fan of BodyAware for some time. I saw this suit the other day, but wasn't quite sure about getting it. So, Area51tazz, please let us know what you think of it once you receive it! Thanks!

I saw these and they're not a bad replacement, but the turquoise piping and drawstring detracts from what would otherwise be a more masculine look and feel. If there was a black version or even white contrast then I might be more interested. Unfortunately, Bodyaware seem only to aim for a certain market. The other issue is that these are polyester rather than the PU covered previously used in waterpolo trunks, so again not quite the same. Any thoughts?

They're not too bad, but they aren't my favorite suit. They fit really well, and they look ok. Just not blown out of the water (teehee) by them.
