Since I am not comfortable yet hitting the beach in just speedos...I am looking to get some normal swim shorts...get out of these damn heavy/bulky boardshorts.

I tried 2xist when they had the sale. Their Mid-Length Swim Shorts were a nice length...not too long and not too short. They say they are 5.5" inseam and 14" side length. Problem is their patterns are "not me" and the solid looked like old guy shorts :)

Any suggestions on where to get swim shorts like these? And what brands I should look at?

Thanks in advance!

Arena of any interest to you?
http://proswimwear.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?o=swimshorts&q=swim+shorts
(NB: that is the page to go direct but it seems it will not perform and swim shorts should therefore go into "search"on the page)

Thanks Byron...I think I'm looking for non-fitted shorts though. Not ready for fitted.

I also noticed a lot of the "normal" brands...Nike, Addidas, etc are very baggy...looking for something a bit more slim fit, but not fitted.

Runner style might be appropriate - not fitted but faux split side design in swimwear is becoming popular.
(have you put mens swim shorts into Google Images to get a starting point on what you might like?)

TonyO919,

Check out the Undergear website. There are some swim shorts by Tactics that might be what you are looking for and they are on clearance now. I bought a couple of pairs last year and have liked them.

TonyO919,

That same thing happened to me with a brief I wanted to order from undergear.
Have you tried Swimoutlet.com or Dickssportinggoods.com?

For Tony - anything here in this vid. to give you inspiration?
(even though four years old some might still be available)

Here's a site for the traditional (-IE- 1960s vintage) men's gym shorts and swim trunks:

My bf wears this style when he does long open water swims with me. He helps me train for open water races.

He can undo the straps and sun in it.

Most guys would not want to wear that, Molly. Here is one idea if you want somthing snug: http://www.internationaljock.com/speedo-ignite-splice-square-leg-navy,11517.html and a second example if you want something a bit looser: http://www.internationaljock.com/speedo-poly-mesh-square-leg-training-suit-blackblue,69763.html

I have the first one (not the 2nd) and wear it when I don't think a Speedo Brief is appropriate.

I rather like Brave Soul's camouflage shorts:

I personally LOVE these by Jack & Jones. They are the perfect fit, short enough but not too short. They're a great pair to try out for the first time if you've never bought a short short. They're appropriate for any scene.

Note, they look and feel a bit shorter and more fitted/slimmer than they do in these pics. At least they do on me. i'm 5'9 160lbs and wear size S. It looks like the models in the pics on the site are wearing one size up.

This is the UK site, but they also have them in Can/US and other countries, Jack & Jones has stores internationally.

I DON'T like them at all.

They're pretty much the same old long and baggy "Status Quo" stuff. There is also a company called Chubbie's Shorts that started out on the innovative idea of offering the mid-thigh and shorter concept. But, now Chubbies is just offering mostly the same old long and baggy stuff that the chain stores sell.

It seems that everyone is trying to sell the "Square Wheel" and if you've seen one, you've seen em all.

Move on, nothing to see here.

Haha, how about reading a little before you reply. As stated, it looks like the models in the pics are wearing one size up. They fit shorter and more fitted on me than they do on the models in those pics. In person they look a lot more like the shorts in the link you had posted, though probably much better quality and closer to something OP is actually looking for.
