Speedos at a nude beach

I want to know why any guy wears a speedo at a nude beach. There are always a few. If you are going to go to a nude beach, get naked with the rest of us! Best way to make those tan lines disappear!

There are many answers to your question making it difficult to give a short concise answer.
A nude beach is a fairly safe place as it will tend to drive away all those who object to the naked human body. All those who mock, point and make unpleasant comments will remain on the board shorts beach.
Having driven away the intolerant a nude beach attracts several different categories of user: families with children, (mixed) couples, single men and gay groups. The gay groups may be formed of single men who merge together.
Some single gay guys wishing to enjoy meeting other gay men may be attracted to nude beaches but prefer to wear speedos rather than go naked.
Other men that choose to wear speedos or swim thongs may find the main town beach overcrowded and unwelcoming and head off for the more tolerant and peaceful nude beach.
Some people wish to experience a nude beach but when they arrive they are too nervous to strip off completely, so remain in speedos.
On a beach in France close to a major naturist resort I came across a young man who had hidden his kit in the dunes then walked around the tops of the dunes and into the woods wearing only black speedos and sandals. He would promenade in plain sight until naturists started walking towards him to have a closer look, then he would disappear into the dunes or the trees only to reappear in a distant yet highly viewable spot. I am not sure if there is a word for this behaviour.

I searched some info about naturist groups where I live. many of them don't allow even thongs. everybody must be naked. is a rule.well, they have many rules. the only exceptions are when you come for the first time and when women have "you know what I mean". and some also don't allow single men. only couples and single women. I wanted to join one in my city but I'm single, so..

At most nude beaches I've been to its only a few guys, but there are always a few. Maybe they are trying to hide their arousal. Maybe they don't want to show off their tan lines. What they don't realize is they are missing the amazing feeling of being naked outside in public in the warm sunshine where it's not illegal! FYI, for those who have never been to a nude beach, it's not all hot body girls and guys. That is the exception. Most of the hot body guys are hanging in the gay sections of the beach. In general it is people over 50 years old, a lot more men then women and the worst part is the majority of the are just plan fat! Last time I was a Haulover Beach, there were a number of very large women in their 60's. I wanted to just tell them, please put some clothes on, you are grossing me out!

The people that manage naturist clubs tend to have a drawbridge mentality. They have their place in the sun and want to stop anyone not in their own image from getting in. Families and married couples are ok to join but single men are not. Straight single men are a threat to their wives and daughters, while they don't want gay single men anywhere near their club. Straight sex in a naturist club is banned except in caravans and bungalows and the idea of gay sex taking place in their grounds is terrifying.

Since families rarely attend naturist clubs these days the clubs are left with increasingly old couples, slowly dying out while younger men are knocking on the gates and being asked to leave.

After giving up on naturist clubs the single man is limited to trying to get into naked swinging clubs or gay venues and saunas. Although you can get in and get naked in these places straight or gay sex may be taking place openly around you and it is up to you to walk away if you don't like it.

Naturist or a free beaches are really the only places where you can as a single man get naked in front of others all day without the expectation of sexual pursuits. A free beach is an unofficial nude beach, tolerated by the local authority usually because it is so far from the nearest road that no one would go there unless they wanted to get naked.

Speedos at nude beach, here are my thoughts:

Saw men nude on the sand, but put on speedos going into water, came out taking off again. Protection, as family jewels were out of sight in mystery, underwater.

Some people want to try nude, but not mentally ready. So remain wearing speedos.

Nude beaches are tour sites especially in the US. Small groups 2-4 people remain in swimsuits as they were sightseeing as tourists, taking in the experiences.

Some people just came in to watch naked people :rolleyes:

I have seen ladies with top bra swimsuit on but nude bottom :confused: But their freedom, I am not judging.

Must be something in the DNA of some cultures that the sight of the human body of all or particular genders carries such mixed feelings of shame/freedom/exhibitionism/enjoyment/admiration/condemnation/curiosity /et al - which result in some very strange behaviours.
As for the family jewels NJH I think it's the piranahs in rivers one has to worry about (though I guess that if you are about to be eaten alive by a bloody great white shark, being dressed or undressed matters little).

No I have not heard the word pansexual before, my spellchecker does not reject it so it does exist.
I personally don't like labels for people's sexuality; the Nazis labelled some races as good and other's as bad and the rest is history. They also made homosexuals wear pink triangles then rounded them up for extermination.
As a single person I wish to create my own lifestyle without being labelled, judged and denigrated by others.
I also dislike those who are hetero-normative when speaking, without being openly homophobic they leave no room for positive bi or gay experience in a conversation.

I just like speedos more than I like being nude. If I go to a nude beach, as Torchwatch said, it's to be with the more accepting croud.

I've gone to an Asian spa, so I have some idea what it's like to be nude in "public"...very liberating

When the surf fishermen are catching blue runners on cut mullet strips just 50 yards away, I've gotten nervous about skinny dipping and put my Speedo on to swim or body surf.

I've been a member of a men's private health club for several years. It is a great place, the the age of members varies from college age guy to guys in their 60's and all in good shape. I'm in my late 40's and also in good shape. Our club has a welcoming and initiation day for our new young college age members. Some of us are their mentors,myself included. Most of these guys are well built and love swimming and wearing Speedo swimsuits. The club has a large olympic size swimming pool with other facilities like the sauna rooms, steam baths, including a roomy gym area. The locker rooms have plenty of room for changing and showering. Late last spring our club had its new member's initiation for three young guys just accepted into our club. I was a mentor for one of them Some of the club's requirements included nude swimming and wearing only togas in the gym during group exercises. . I knew two of these new guy from our college alumni. They didn't know about the being nude club rule. These guys love wearing speedo swim suits, spandex shorts or men's leotards. On the initiation day they were sent to the locker room to put on their favorite and snuggest swim briefs. They really liked being in speedos and all three guys felt very relaxed having erections in their swim suits. The start of the initiation, was announced and the guys were sent back in the locker room,not knowing what was going to happen. A group of us senior member sat in the bleachers by the tiled pool area to watch the initiation. The three guys were told by the club sports manager, they will be called out, one at a time from the locker room, blind folded. Two young club swimmers will be their guides and to do what they were told by the guides. They will be judged by our club manager and directors, sitting with us in the bleachers. We will all cheer them on. After our club manager announced the start of the initiation process, the initiation began for these shy guys, still not knowing what was going to happen, the first new guy is blind folded and guided out of the locker to middle of the tiled pool area, directly across from us in the bleachers, wearing togas, as the manager directed the club swimmers guiding the new members select. The first guy looked great, his speedo was a bright yellow, outlining his full hard on. It seemed, the guys were told they will be escorted sexy women in bikinis. Little did they know. He was still blind folded as the manager had his guides turned him around a few times, then bend him over, snapping the snug leg bands of his tight yellow suit.He let a let out a yelp. Later after the new member's initiation was over, the three guys went back into the locker room for a shower and change of clothes. Everybody was good to them through their plights, they were good sports about it too. all three guys admitted that they jacked off together in the shower too. They rather wear speedo swim suits before swimming in the nude.

I don't think that anyone should be critical of guys who wear speedos at a nude beach. If you consider the idea of "clothing optional", that means one has the option to be nude or to wear a speedo, in this case, if one so chooses.

About 10 years ago, my wife and I were vacationing in the south of France in a small town called Ramatuelle, right near St. Tropez, where there was a nude beach nearby. I was 57 at the time and had never been to a nude beach, so I decided to go a couple of times. My wife, who is less daring than I, was a very good sport and came along. I arrived in my speedo which I took off, and my wife remained in her one piece, feeling more comfortable that way and I didn't try to convince her to remove her bathing suit. There were people of all ages on the beach, most nude, some women just topless, some men in speedos, bikinis or thongs. There was one large family where the grandparents were nude as were the parents, a girl about 19 or 20 just topless, and a boy, 15 or 16 in a very low cut bikini. I guess the kids were not comfortable being nude in front of their family or each other.

So, my point is, people have the option to do as they wish for whatever reason and shouldn't be subject to suppositions about their reasons. I must say, at the age of 57, I felt very comfortable and free at that beach and wouldn't hesitate to do it again if the opportunity arose.

In the 1980's there used to many families on British naturist beaches, as boys reached puberty they would begin to wear speedos or shorts on the beach not only out of embarrassment at being naked in front of their parents but also as other boys would notice their full body tans in the showers at school and start taunting them about visiting nude beaches.
When boys reached manhood they would begin to loose their inhibitions and again go naked especially with friends of their own age.
When the great paedo hunt of the 1990's began families began to disappear from British naturist beaches, mothers stayed with the children and the fathers moved to textile beaches with their families, all wearing increasingly long shorts. The naturist beaches were left to older childless couples and single men. Many of the single men were gay or became gay, sunning themselves discretely in dunes or among cliff alcoves. word spread that the former family naturist beaches were now gay attracted non naturist gay men some of whom wore speedos.

I am concerned about the story of the initiation ceremony at a health club above. It reminds me of the scene in Tom Brown's School Days where Tom Brown on his first day at school is forced to stand on a table and sing a song by the school bully Flashman. I have no problems with a health club having a naked swimming pool and sauna suite, either all the time or for special sessions, but blindfolds and being publicly stripped in front of a cheering crowd could be damaging to those men who were not willing or aware of what would happen.

I've been at a hotel in Netherlands where most of the patrons at the pool were naked. I went in with a 1/2 inch white bikini which I swam in for a short while until i went into the steam room where there were a couple of older ladies and one suggested that I might as well be naked since my bikini was so skimpy and basically transparent! So I slipped out of it there and then much to their pleasure!
